Good morning! Thank you for the session, I was wondering if we will be given the powerpoint.

22:30
I have the same question: may we have access to the powerpoint? Thank you Dennis, Roberto, Kathy and everyone involved in this event. Lee Ann (not P) Guenther

Thank you. I thought I was the only one who wanted this.

Nope. :-)

Do you think there are advantages vs disadvantages of assignments being due by 11:00 pm or immediately before class meets?
Ted Alter
27:55
I have found having a weighted column in Gradebook to be counterproductive. They follow their course grade throughout the semester and when “Class Participation”, which covers a number of criteria, enters into the course grade calculation at the end of the semester, they argue as to how that number was calculated.

Will you go over how to have student conversations? I’ve only done assignments due in Blackboard, never group chat or collaboration.
Cynthia Pope
37:41
Assessment- When you say consider draft assignment, do you mean formative assessment? The opportunity to revise and resubmit for a better grade?
David Lechner
42:17
Some times it's a good idea to simply HIDE a given column, even for a period of time where it loses relevance ...
pguenther
42:41
In some of my classes, even face-to-face, I use a midcourse class participation check to avoid discrepancies at the end of the course. There is a participation rubric, the students self-assess with it at midterm, and I provide feedback within a week. I agree with their self-assessment, disagree and provide suggested actions to improve. This has been very successful for me. Just a thought Lee Ann
Roberto Castillo
50:28
That's a great suggestion Lee Ann

Do you make the Welcome video in Zoom?
Sreelekha Prakash
01:02:52
I see statistic tracking on your BB, can I do that for all the modules or content areas ?
Roberto Castillo
01:03:36
You can make the welcome video in Zoom
Roberto Castillo
01:04:45
You can turn statistic tracking on items you post on Blackboard
Sreelekha Prakash
01:05:47
Roberto, can we do tracking inbuilt for a course ?
Roberto Castillo
01:09:55
I'm not sure what you mean with inbuilt
Roberto Castillo
01:10:15
You can trach new and existing content in Blackboard
Kate Ogden
01:10:47
It is an advantage of using “Announcements” that it sends an email, but also keeps a record of what you’ve said within Blackboard?
Christina Steele
01:10:48
Do emails from Blackboard show up in their Stockton email, or do they have to check on Blackboard?
Richard Miller
01:11:32
How do you get students to read your comments within the grade area? I find that students only notice their scores.
Roberto Castillo
01:13:17
Announcements is another option in Blackboard for communicating course information to students. I like to use multiple options to connect with students
Ian Finnimore
01:13:20
I use the announcement function and then I copy that announcement and email the class. So they get it twice potentially!!
annemari tarsitano’s iPhone
01:13:41
I like that when I send an announcement to my students, I receive the email as well. 👍
David Lechner
01:13:49
One problem with PDF files, though, is that if the document is more than a page or two, only the beginning will appear in Chrome (not a problem with Firefox or Safari) ...
Roberto Castillo
01:13:55
E-mails can show in their e-mail providing that option is enabled
Roberto Castillo
01:15:09
Students can preview your feedback in My Grades
Kate Ogden
01:15:34
Zoom recording took FOREVER this semester to send back versions with captioning, and the ones that I got had awful captioning. What’s the best way to get closed captioning?
Christina Steele
01:17:06
Thanks, everyone!
Roberto Castillo
01:17:36
Close caption takes time to produce and that usually takes the longest to make available.
Roberto Castillo
01:18:37
Services such as YouTube or Vimeo will generate a transcript for close captioning automatically

Please complete a brief evaluation form for this session. We value your feedback and we will use this data to enhance our course schedule. Thank you - https://stockton.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_eVcFAWaFZkhJxel
Ian Finnimore
01:25:26
Is it my understanding Blackboard will be open earlier (June?)
Jessica Fleck Raymond
01:27:24
Because many people are converting classroom courses to online format, what is the best way to import existing quizzes and exams from Word or another format into a Blackboard test?
Ian Finnimore
01:27:37
Can you drag columns to change the order they appear?
Kate Ogden
01:28:01
You can’t drag them - but you can go to “Manage” and “Columns” and drag them there.
Guy F Barbato
01:28:24
I use Respondus to take quiz/test documents and export them to Blackboard/Canvas. Works like a charm
Jessica Fleck Raymond
01:29:06
Thanks! I will give it a try!
Maya Lewis
01:29:24
Will Respondus just take a word document quiz and place it right into Blackboard? I never knew that could happen! Thanks
Guy F Barbato
01:30:20
Yep. It can import doc/docx files and connect to your BBoard course to directly export. Piece of cake!
Roberto Castillo
01:31:22
Hey Jessica.. We have an option available to faculty for converting exams created in Word to Blackboard. https://stockton.edu/cld/resources.html
Maya Lewis
01:31:39
Thank you!
Jessica Fleck Raymond
01:32:03
Thanks, Roberto!
Roberto Castillo
01:32:37
Yes, you can drag columns to change the order. It's under Manage, Column Organization in the Grade Center
Roberto Castillo
01:33:19
Sure
Kate Ogden
01:34:37
Will Dennis show us how to make a student chat room or conversation area in Bb? Or is there a tutorial somewhere already?

Linda Wharton

Zoom reports show names of all participants.
Roberto Castillo
01:43:24
You are right Linda.. But you still have to record attendance in Blackboard
Ian Finnimore
01:43:33
I use a three question attendance quiz (AQ) they have to take every meeting. The three questions are based on that days lesson and count only for attendance that day. They are not graded but it helps to see who really understood and who is watching or reviewing anything uploaded for that lesson

Does anyone know if Loom makes closed captions when you record a lecture and powerpoint with it?
Guy F Barbato
01:47:31
There's a 30day free trial.... https://web.respondus.com/support/download-respondus-4-0/ it is especially good if you use multiple lms's at different institutions.
